Quotes of the Week

Here are some of your ideas that struck a chord with me.  Thank you for sharing your insights.

There is definitely a difference between students as digital natives, and teachers as digital immigrants. Students use technology as a way to socialize and for personal issues, while teachers use technology more to create exams, presentations, lectures, study guides, etc

There are two main influences as to why schools today are using technology more and more in the classroom. The first is the changing job market. Teachers need to prepare students for a future in which most jobs involve some sort of technology. The second influence is a changing world in general. Most tasks today are completed with technology.

To be born as a digital native and a millennial I feel as though we are often looked down upon by previous generations.  We were thrust into a world with technology that is absolutely astounding, yet are at times treated as though it is our fault that we were born at this time in history.

I love creative projects as well! Have you ever made a movie? There will be a short film festival at the Challenger Learning Center in the coming week (very fun + creative). Good luck on strengthening your collab skills.

I hope that my students and I in the future are on a level playing field when it comes to technology however, I hope they don't get used to using technology in the class room. If technology is to ever fail I believe that students need to learn how things were done the old fashion way, because we never know what the future holds. So knowing how to do things without a computer can better a student and help them appreciate the technology they have today.

One standard that gladdens my heart is the Global Collaborator standard that states: "Students use digital tools to broaden their perspectives and enrich their learning by collaborating with others and working effectively in teams locally and globally" (ISTE, 2017). This standard gladdens my heart because it promotes technology that fosters diversity, which is important in our society to embrace our differences to support positive change.

The standard that I liked the most was "Students recognize the rights, responsibilities and the opportunities of living, leaning and working in an interconnected digital world, and they act and model in ways that are safe, legal, and ethical." I really enjoyed seeing this standard on there because I think students tend to overlook the impact that their online usage can have on other people. The internet can tend of have a sense of annonymty and I think it is important for students to learn to behave in an ethical manner when using technology.
